You Go Girl Camp

My inaugural debut as fitness director for young girls in my hometown proved to be the most rewarding summer 2011 experience!

Their constant laughter was infectious and I felt deeply connected to my "inner girl" throughout my time with them.

All so unique and filled with different abilities, traits, thoughts, and expressions. It quickly made me very much aware of how this next generation of young people need attention. They need encouragement and hopeful messages from their teachers, parents, and other adults in their lives. Their energy is precious and a HUGE asset to living a healthy, happy life.

These girls were not only full of energy, they were very curious and I loved how they asked questions and became involved in not only the physical activites, but the mental activities. These girls do not have Health Class in their school. This was a shock as it is the most crucial class to have for young girls as they are rapidly changing physically, mentally, and emotionally. I can not believe this class has been removed from school and it is an honest shame on government policy. A whole other topic I can expand upon at another time.

I made sure to address issues about self-esteem and body image as well as self-confidence. They wrote letters to themselves about their health, fitness, relationships, and school goals for the rest of 2011. I will be sending their self-addressed letters to them in December as they will be half way through a brand-new school year.

Take time for the young people in your life. Tell them stories. Listen to them. Be a motivator. Be a cheerleader in their life. They need you and they need to know how special they are and that they need to hold on to their energy! Cultivating it and nourishing their unique selves so they can live life happily and fully just the way they are!

GO spend some time with a young person today!
