Had some FUN at Publix today!

I met up with Anna, Adriana, Olivia, and Kristen this afternoon at Publix for a little "FOOD FUN"! These awesome FPD students are extremely creative and talented writers for FPD's Student Newspaper, the Saga.




We ended up spending almost 2 hours walking around Publix talking about what TO EAT and what NOT TO EAT!

The PRIMARY purpose of this exercise was to inform, educate, and empower them to take control of what they put in their bodies! To think of food as ENERGY and not just something that "tastes good" or tastes bad."

  • Look at the first 3 ingredients of EVERYthing you purchase! Don't be afraid to compare store brands to name brands! Sugar, butter, cream, oil....should not be at the top of the list! The ingredient list is in the order of AMOUNT in the food!
  • Look at PROTEIN, SUGAR (and overall carbohydrates), and FAT on the Nutrition Label!

    Protein keeps us satieted and is essential for overall health, I could go on forever on how necessary protein is for the body. Eat it (only LEAN though!)

    Sugar makes us crash! It is only good in LOW quantities. So make sure what you are eating is not FULL of it! Watch for those "fat free" gimmicks--all they do is transfer the fat that WAS in the product TO SUGAR! The calories typically don't even change or might even go up!

    Fat needs to be HIGHLY comprised of poly or monounsaturated fat--healthy/essential fat that helps glide blood smoothly through our arteries (gets rid of plaque and blockages!). NOT Saturated Fat--this clogs our arteries all throughout our bodies!
